happy birthday πŸŽ‚

Given that march is my birthday month, this post seems rather fitting at the moment. πŸ˜‰

With multiple kids, I have come to realize that there are always birthday party 🎈invitations sprawled all over my kitchen counter. If they aren’t on my counters, they are stuffed into the drawers or glued to the fridge. πŸ™ˆ During the school year, the flow of party invitations never ebbs.

I often feel like a birthday Grinch, when my kids look at me with pleading eyes “can we go to this one?? PLEASE?!” More often than not, I have to be the bearer of bad news. Am I the only evil 😈 parent out there that can’t squeeze all the birthday invitations into our busy family schedule? 😱 πŸ€”

I make an effort. I especially will make an effort for our close friends and those my kids have known for a few years. πŸ’™

If we do get a chance to go to a party, we take our gift giving very seriously around here. More often than not my kids have a very specific idea of what their friends like. They spend their lunch hour at school weeks prior (make that MONTHS. I know, because I get to hear it every day πŸ˜‚!) party planning into the last detail. In the event that we don’t come up with any meaningful, I try to at least bring along a useful gift. πŸ˜¬πŸ˜‰

After several conversations with my fellow moms, I have started gifting 🎁 the reversible totes with a matching snack bag or one of our favorite books to make it something that can be used for quite some time.

Pictured here: an avenger tote paired with an avenger snack bag for an avenger themed birthday party. πŸ˜‚ I figured we can’t go wrong.

Pictured here: my daughter’s friend’s favorite color is purple. MY daughter’s favorite print at the moment is this unicorn. So, we paired it with one of our all-time favorite books: Rosie Revere Engineer. β€οΈπŸ‘ŠπŸ»

If you know someone who can’t decide who or what they love the most that day (where are my toddler mamas?), pick two of their favorite characters!

The mom that customized this pictured tote wanted to give her toddler the chance to switch it up every day (or every hour. minute. second. you know how those toddlers are.) Mission accomplished πŸ™ŒπŸ»

Customizable to any size, age or need, these totes will be a hit with any birthday kid. Spruce it up with a book, a snack bag packed with some delicious goodies or just wrap a bow 🎁 around it. Trust me on this one. πŸ˜‰
Happy Birthday!!! πŸŽ‚

THE sally dress

One of my goals this year has been to incorporate more dresses into my repertoire.πŸ’ƒπŸ» With a toddler that refuses any and all naps, a son’s soccer schedule that takes up many evenings and the majority of our weekends, as well as piano lessons and swimming squeezed into there, and a husband that is rarely home, it’s been tough to find the *extra* time that these projects require over some of my other items. BUT…. I have a slew of new dress patterns and fun ideas and am determined to make it work. πŸ‘ŠπŸ»After all, I haven’t purchase a store-made skirt or dress for my girls in over a year now. πŸ˜‰

The first dress I couldn’t wait to introduce to you guys was the Sally dress. I stumbled upon this pattern Shannon created when I was perusing her blog over at Very Shannon . com and I instantly fell in love with it.😍

It’s simplicity had my heart skip a beat.

It’s modern. Clean lines. I love clean lines.

It’s whimsical. I haven’t seen a dress like this before.

It’s playful. Those pockets…. they hold every childhood treasure imaginable from stuffed animals to sticks, stones, marbles, and even one or the other treat.

It’s roomy. (My girls are NOT afraid to wrestle their brother and his friends IN dresses.

It’s sooooo versatile. Dress it up. Dress it down. Short sleeves. Longer sleeves. Sleeveless. Combine it with a turtleneck or a long-sleeve shirt in the winter or just enjoy as is, once we get those warm sun rays back.

Oh … and all the various fabric combinations! A dream come true.

I started out with a dress for my daughter’s father-daughter dance at school and haven’t stopped sewing it since. If you’re looking for one to spruce up your daughter’s wardrobe, send me a message. I have some amazing fabrics, I haven’t been able to cut into yet.

it’s the simple things…

three kiddos into this parenting thing, I can say with confidence that the saying “it’s the simple things that matter” holds true on so many levels!

Take the toys for example. Nowadays everything is big, bright, loud AND… lest not forget: educational. πŸ€”

It’s not always been an easy journey (and there have been a few missteps), but I am proud that we have always tried to reach for simple, basic, universal toys: blocks, trains, costumes, Legos, puzzles. Anything that fosters imagination and creativity. And, despite having an almost nine year old, we continue to remain a video game free home πŸ™ŒπŸ».

When my sister introduced me to the pattern for this gorgeous baby doll/stuffed animal carrier, I was elated.

Or I should say… my girls were over the moon!

Something so simple, yet it has provided hours of imaginative play and fun for them!

Whether baby dolls or stuffed animals… this carrier works!

It’s been a big hit in my store since I introduced it and I quickly expanded by adding baby doll diapers and wipes for a fun birthday or “big sister” set.

Check them out! You won’t regret it πŸ™‚

2017 whaaaat?!Β

I blinked…. and January flew right past me! πŸ’¨πŸ’¨πŸ’¨πŸ’¨

How did that just happen? 😱 Does anyone else feel like 2017 rolled in with a vengeance? Wowzers!

If you ask me, a new year screams for some new exciting things. So, stay tuned as I plan to catch you up (admits homework, soccer practices, piano and swim lessons, school events, …. the usual chaos) on some newly available items!

If you follow me on Facebook, you have already been able to get a glance at some of these. For everyone else, enjoy this little sneak peak.πŸ’•

playground approved

The biggest surprise with my second child was the fact that she turned out to be a girl.πŸ˜‚πŸ‘§πŸΌ  I am only somewhat kidding. My pregnancy was identical to my first and I was 110% sure that we were having another baby boy…. but, as it turned out, we quickly had to get used to the phenomena of pink. πŸ˜¬πŸ™ˆπŸŽ€

The second biggest surprise to me was girls’ clothing!😳
Wow! What a difference to the comfy baby boy clothing we had been buying previously. In all honesty, what toddler can learn how to walk in tight jeans …

(or show off that they truly are THE fastest one. Ever!)

… and how many shades of pink can you possible combine? 😱

When I first started sewing, I was just looking to mix up patterns and colors to mix up my little one’s wardrobe. Soon, my girls demanded to wear nothing else but their “ballets,” since they are also some of the more comfortable items they own.

And… as it turns out, they are not only comfortable enough to play soccer in ….

… and dance your heart out …

… but they are also truly playground approved!

(Look at that amazing twirl!)

You can have it all after all!

Why not look amazing AND be comfortable to enjoy whatever adventure you choose to go on that day?! πŸ™ŒπŸ»β€οΈ

baby, it’s cold outside…

… or is it?!

We have enjoyed one of the warmest fall seasons in a long time. Last week, waiting in the school parking lot for pick up, my car thermometer read 75 degrees! 😱 πŸ˜…

But, just as we started complaining about the strange weather, cold temperatures showed up with a vengeance and temperatures dropped dramatically. 🌬That suits me just fine, as my warm winter boots, leg warmers and scarves are seriously some of my favorite wardrobe items.πŸ˜‰

Pluuuuus… I have been sewing these ultimate neck, shoulder and chest warmers at lightning speed!

Last year, I received this pattern from one of my oldest friends.

She is an A.MAZ.ING  seamstress and ever since we have been sitting next to each other in textile science class (fancy word for our sewing class in fifth grade), I have been admiring  her skills. Although an ocean has separated us for many years now and her knowledge on and with the sewing machine surpasses mine by far, she has always reached out with support and encouragement on all of my projects.

So, when she said that I need to make these for my kiddos, she wasn’t kidding!

And before I even finished the first one, I decided that not only my kids, but everyone in my family would be receiving one of these amazing things for Christmas that year. πŸŽ„πŸ™ŒπŸ»

The coziness!

The warmth!

The fact that it eliminated all hassle AND whining from the getting-dressed-process sold me instantly. Even better, it fits under any jacket, it doesn’t get undone to let in wind or snow like most traditional scarves, and did I mention it keeps your little one warm?!

This year, since my family members all own one (or in some cases two 😬) of these, I decided to sew them for YOU!

Message me to order your own customized piece of warmth this winter. πŸ’™

time flies…

… when you’re having fun!

Or, so they say.

Just a few weeks ago, I felt a tad bit different about it. I had finally put in an order for some custom labels for “Nina’s Flying Needle” and then the waiting game began!

And I waited …

and waited!!!

It seemed like I was harassing my poor mailman for weeks! (When in reality, it really hadn’t been thaaaat long. 😬)

When these gorgeous beauties 😍 finally arrived, it felt like Christmas in October to me! πŸŽ„

I could NOT contain my excitement! πŸ™ŒπŸ»

And then…. i turned it up a notch with my sewing machine!!!

all the dressesΒ

About three weeks ago, after an internal back and forth battle that had gone on for months, I finally hit the purchase button on something that I considered a tremendous luxury: my very own serger.

Once it arrived though, I fell in love ❀️ all over again. At first,  I was petrified! All the threads. All the needles. All I could manage was stare at the box for about a week. Once I realized how you can thread that sucker in just a few minutes, I was a goner!

It has literally been running non-stop ever since …

I have been making all the dresses. All the twirly skirts.

Everything! I am obsessed!  πŸ˜

Now… excuse me, while I run back to my sewing table. πŸ‘ŠπŸ»πŸ˜‰

boo πŸ‘»

in past years, I have splurged on expensive, personalized boutique πŸŽƒ Halloween bags for my kiddos. i am a sucker for having something unique and really appreciate good quality items. especially, since despite the once-a-year holiday, these bags get a LOT of use in our house. whether it is through pretend play or to carry the 1,000,000 cars we own from one room to the other, somehow the Halloween trick or treat bags are used constantly

unfortunately, the last one I purchased two years ago broke rather quickly! 😳😒 ever since, i’ve been dragging my feet on buying one for child #3, because in all honesty, paying top dollar with three kids adds up soooo quickly 😬….. until I realized this year that our reversible tote bags in a Halloween print are the perfect trick or treat bag. seriously! πŸ‘ŠπŸ»

they withstand all the rough playing in our house. they have survived all of our library trips and long car rides (I toss them over the head rest to hold extra knick knacks). the short handles allow even toddlers to carry their own “treasures” 🍫🍭🍬 without being dragged on the ground. most importantly, the size of the bag doesn’t become overwhelming for little ones.

as soon as I pulled out my Halloween prints to get to work on my niece and my youngest’ bags, my big kids came running and begging me for one too.πŸ˜‚

if you’re still looking for a durable, unique trick or treat bag, there’s plenty of time left to shoot me a message.

Happy trick or treating! πŸŽƒ

afternoon pick me upΒ

trust me: snack bags aren’t just for kidsπŸ‘ŠπŸ». my ‘school pick up’ snack in the car generally consists of:

a double espresso β˜•οΈβ˜•οΈ w/ foamed milk and a dash of maple syrup βœ”οΈ

a handful of banana chips, a sliced apple, or another yummy treat that fit perfectly into these baggies. βœ”οΈ

don’t fret!!!  I can assure you that they are perfect for those sweet πŸͺtreats too. πŸ˜‰

I have even been known to ‘hide’ a slice of apple streusel cake in them before😬 πŸ˜‚.
